The role of advisory services in achieving the objective of reducing the use and risk of chemical pesticides and the use of fertilisers under the European Green Pact.
The European strategy sets ambitious targets:
- A 50% reduction in the use and risks of chemical pesticides and a 50% reduction in the use of the most hazardous pesticides by 2030;
- a reduction of nutrient losses by at least 50% so that soil fertility is not affected. This will reduce fertiliser use by at least 20% by 2030;
What responsibilities do extension services in each country or region have to achieve this?
a) Reduce the overall risk and use of pesticides by promoting integrated pest management methods and increasing the use of safe alternative methods to protect crops from pests and diseases.
b) Reducing and preventing pollution from excessive use of fertilizers and promoting the recycling of nutrients from various forms of organic waste as fertilizers.
Is it possible that this strategy can support farmers, fishermen and fish farmers without comprehensive and efficient advisory services?
How is this strategy managed in the different European regions or countries?
Interactive work among participants to identify what measures could be effective in each region for extension services to support the strategy and to facilitate understanding and implementation of the measures by European farmers, fishermen and fish farmers.
